Witness one of Bali’s most sacred and profound traditions through our exclusive Bali Ngaben Ceremony One Day Tour. This unique cultural experience allows you to respectfully observe a traditional Balinese Hindu cremation ceremony, known locally as Ngaben.
Ngaben is not a moment of sadness — it is a spiritual celebration of life, transformation, and the soul’s journey to the afterlife. For travelers seeking authentic Bali cultural tourism experiences, this tour offers rare insight into the island’s deep spiritual heritage.
What is Ngaben?
Ngaben is a traditional Balinese Hindu cremation ceremony performed to release the soul (atma) from the physical body so it can return to the spiritual realm and eventually reincarnate.
The ceremony includes sacred prayers led by Hindu priests, traditional gamelan music, elaborate ceremonial towers (Bade), decorative sarcophagus (often shaped like a bull called Lembu), and community participation and procession.
One Day Bali Ngaben Ceremony Program
Note: Ngaben dates depend on the Balinese calendar and family schedule. Tour operates when ceremonies are taking place.
1. Hotel Pick-Up & Cultural Briefing
Your journey begins with hotel pick-up in the morning. During the drive, your English-speaking guide will explain the meaning of Ngaben in Balinese Hinduism, the stages of the cremation ceremony, proper behavior and respectful observation, and cultural sensitivity guidelines.
2. Visit to the Family Compound
Before the procession begins, you may visit the family compound where preparations take place. You will observe community members preparing offerings, the ceremonial tower (Bade), family participation in rituals, and traditional decorations and symbolic elements.
3. Ngaben Procession
One of the most spectacular parts of the ceremony is the procession. The ceremonial tower is carried by the community through the village streets accompanied by gamelan music and prayers.
4. Cremation Ritual
The final stage takes place at the cremation ground. Here you will witness sacred chanting by Hindu priests, ritual purification, the symbolic burning ceremony, and spiritual prayers for the soul’s release.

After the ceremony, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the countryside near Ubud. This is a time to reflect, ask questions, and discuss what you experienced with your guide.
